ASSAD MUGENYI – PARTNER
Assad has been writing articles for publication since December 2005 with various newspapers in Uganda handling various assignments from sports and hard news to entertainment and lifestyle before majoring in business journalism. As a business editor at Red Pepper for about 3 years and later assistant news editor, he tackled a wide range of subjects that subsequently had him relocate to The CEO Magazine – a monthly business journal that over time became the leading business journal of choice for anyone in search of incisive commerce analysis in Uganda.
It’s while at The CEO Magazine, that some of Assad’s articles qualified him to attend the second class of the Revenue Watch Institute-sponsored training intended to improve the ability of journalists in Uganda and Ghana to report and write about oil, gas and mining, in October 2011. The idea behind the 8 month training is to generate effective oversight in resource-rich countries because it is believed that an active, knowledgeable press plays a critical role in helping inform and engage the public, citizen groups and parliaments and thus help them hold government and companies accountable.
It is the skills and knowledge gained on this course and in continued association with facilitators from Revenue Watch Institute that help Assad to report and write in depth on oil, gas and mineral issues.
He has also edited the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP) magazine since its inception in March 2010 – when the UCMP was launched by President Yoweri Museveni and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa. The editing of this quarterly UCMP magazine brings Assad in constant contact with key industry players in the oil and gas and industries – giving him a bird’s view of these sectors.
