Australia’s eMetals Targets Busia Gold Project

Australia’s eMetals Limited has kicked off its exploration campaign at a potential gold deposit area in Busia district, which is close to Uganda’s eastern border with Kenya, the company announced today.

The company says it recently collected soil samples from the area and sent them to a laboratory in Tanzania for testing. The results from the laboratory will inform whether eMetals can move ahead and apply for a mining license under Ugandan law. It is not clear when the results from the lab in Tanzania will be made public.

This is the second gold project that eMetals’ is executing in Uganda after it signed a binding agreement in July 2024 with Sifang Mineral Resources Limited, the Ugandan-incorporated company that is the beneficial owner of both projects. The other asset is the Mityana gold project.

According to a statement from eMetals, the Busia project “lies within the Busia Greenstone Belt in south eastern Uganda and forms part of the Archean Nyanzian-Kavirondian system within the Tanzania craton.” The project is also located 25 kilometers from the Wagagai gold project, the biggest in Uganda and the only gold project in the country with a large-scale mining license.

Mathew Walker, the managing director of eMetals, said in a statement that the company was “excited to commence our exploration program in this highly prospective region known to host several world class gold projects.”

The samples that were collected at the Busia site were first taken to Uganda’s Directorate for Geological Survey and Mines (DGSM) for approval, before heading to SGS Tanzania for gold analysis by fire assay.

No exploration for gold, or any other mineral for that matter, has ever been undertaken at the Busia tenement.

eMetals says “further exploration activities are planned to include infill soil sampling and trenching once anomalous areas have been identified.”

The company says there are no impediments to operating the area if the license is issued.
